Nature

Strathpeffer is fortunate to be surrounded by a wonderful array of habitats that, in turn, support a wide range of Highland species. Whether you'd like to see the rare Slavonian Grebe on Kinellan Loch, Britain's most northerly population of Great Crested Newts, red squirrels, pine marten, fungal-filled native woodland or mountain heaths, Strathpeffer has something to interest everyone. The area hosts a number of important conservation projects, including peatland restoration on the nearby Ben Wyvis NNR, river rewilding on the Peffery Burn, and wildflower meadows and Community Orchard in the Strathpeffer Community Park.

Slavonian Grebe can be seen on local lochs in the summar months
