Community Resilience Briefing – 24 February 2023

Welcome to The Highland Council’s fortnightly briefing for groups with an interest in local community resilience. 

Covid, Colds, and Flu related information 

Funding  

SCVO  is a key source of funding information for the third sector. Funds that may be of interest include:

  • UK Youth – Cost of Living Funding Supports youth organisations to ensure these vital services are not being hindered by rising core costs or unprecedented demand. Fund will close once all funds have been allocated.
  • Vegware – Community Fund Gives monthly support to non-profit sustainability projects intended to cover core costs. Next deadline end of August.
  • Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust The current focus area for this year is rehabilitating prisoners, ex-prisoners, those at risk of offending, and children and young people in care and care leavers. Four grant rounds per year, next deadline is 28 February.

Welfare, poverty reduction and resilience

  • SSEN Home Emergency PlanningSSENSSEN Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is a trading name of Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution Limited Registered in Scotland will be holding online events on 25th February 10am-10:45am and 3rd March 12pm-12:45pm. These events are intended to assist with creating home emergency plans to help communities become more resilience cope during short term events of energy disruption.
  • ALISS – A national digital database funded by the Scottish Government enabling information on resources, services, groups, and support to be found and shared within their local communities. Community Groups are encouraged to check if they have been listed on ALISS and are free to add themselves to ALISS if not.
  • Highland Cares Community Training – Attached is information on a variety of online training courses hosted by Highland Cares in response to requests submitted during recent community consultation events, Highland Cares is offering the following courses throughout March and April.   • Scottish Flood Forecasting – Provides up to date information on when and where flooding is expected to occur over a three-day period.
  • Cost of living support – Highland Council webpages on support and information to help with the cost of living.
  • Help during the cost-of-living crisis – Scottish Government advice and information.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

  • NHS Highland Mental Wellbeing – a collection of resources and signposts to help people of all ages to look after their own mental wellbeing.
  • Cost of living crisis and your mental health
    Many people are feeling the strain as the cost of living continues to increase.  This resource provides information on how you can maintain your mental wellbeing at this time, alongside information on how to manage your money as bills rise.
