Blackmuir Wood is maintained by the Forestry Commission and although there has been a large section of trees felled in recent years, it has left the visitor with unparalleled views up west and also views on Ben Wyvis.
There is a short circuit path and a longer circuit path which goes up to the Touch Stone maze. Both walks take you passed a submerged loch full of reeds. It is possible to see some deer around here, in the early morning.
There is also the recently opened Strathpeffer to Jamestown path which runs on the outskirts of the wood.
The more energetic might want to walk to Knockfarrel which is a 4 to 5 mile walk round walk from the car park.
Here is a brief map image how to get there.
